Mother Tongue Spoken Word nights provide an open and welcoming space where anybody can get up and perform, whether they are amateurs or professionals.
From witty poems to funny songs (think Victoria Wood or Tim Minchin), from political spoken word to observational comedy, from the smartest word play to the funniest quips - we love it all and somehow there's such joy in the room. It takes us on a journey, from happy to reflective, from awe-inspiringly talented to side-splittingly funny. If you enjoy seeing talent, this will blow your socks off. 16-20 artists, some fairly new, some incredibly experienced with huge followings, but all utterly superb on the stage.
Thanks to the incredible @BlackScoreBars who helps us organise this bonanza, we get brilliant people as headliners and we'll announce them as soon as we can. But the level of talent, and the joyous atmosphere is unlike any other spoken work night.
The beauty of being on the Ravenswood Estate is that Mother Tongue can roam around the venues. This time we're at Pillars Brewery and our artists will take the stage in front of towering silver brewing tanks.
Open mic sign up from 7pm, show starts at 7.30 pm. We don't guarantee seating, so come early if you don't want to stand.
If you've not been before, but it interests you, come. You won't be able to stop talking about how good it was!
